Airpusher… Curious?

Ohhhh hello there! Thank you for your curiosity about the Airpusher Collective. We'd like to orient you to what we’re all about and how we work.

Formed as a Burning Man Arts collective in 2013 in Oakland, CA, Airpusher has been focused on sparking joy with our art, music, and events, on and off the Playa ever since. Particularly focused on caring for eachother as a community and embracing non-hierarchical leadership has allowed us to develop and grow together in a caring and safe space.

2024-25 is a very exciting time for us. We are letting go of our darling, the Airpusher Steampunk Airship, to make space for the evolution of ourselves, our community, and our art. We are at the precipice of climate collapse and we want to offer an invitation of preparation and an imagination of a new way of being in the world:

  • Can our new art inspire a future of regeneration and social justice?

  • Can we ignite our community’s collective imagination of a positive post climate-collapse, post-capitalist future where humanity lives in balance with the Earth and her natural systems?

  • Can we imagine a radically different future where we incentivize the well-being of all beings?

  • What would THAT future look like?

In these answers will be our new direction as a Collective, and actualizing THAT future is what we will inspire with our actions, our dance parties, and our next big art project!

Saaaay... a Solarpunk Airship perhaps?

Our values

  1. We create with authenticity and intention.

  2. We bring joy through art, music, and experiences to our community and beyond.

  3. We recognize the impact our actions have on the natural world. We aspire to have a regenerative relationship with the planet through our personal actions and purchases; this is reflected in our collective art and events.

  4. We acknowledge unbalanced power dynamics and privilege within our own Collective and in the larger world. We serve underrepresented voices stepping forward and using our platform to challenge inequities.

  5. We communicate directly and with respect. We practice gratitude, honesty, and inclusion with Nonviolent Communication.

  6. We hear each other, take care of each other, and practice consent. Our community is our safe space.

  7. We participate by empowering ourselves. This is a Do-ocracy; drive it, own it, make it happen!

  8. We practice integrity & accountability. We follow through on what we commit to and if we can't, we ensure someone else owns it.

  9. We celebrate each other. We invest in each other and build each other up. We practice encouragement and appreciation!

  10. We value the 10 Principles of Burning Man.

How we operate

Everybody is part of “Airpusher Crew,” where most of our coordination happens. You’ll be added to this google group when you’re approved to join by the ReCrewters.

For more specifics, we normally work in umbrellas, or circles/pods/committees, that own particular pieces of the puzzle. There’s a lot of overlap between different groups, and people usually participate in multiple ways. For example, we expect that folks will lend a hand with the ship and events even if they’re mostly in it for the community.

  • The Board: legal and financial decisions/responsibility. These people have authority for what we spend our money on and what we take our stuff to (the ship, sound gear, etc.).

  • Burning Man Leadership: these people figure out what needs doing for the Burn each year including camp, car, and community. Should start to take shape around February every year.

  • Umbrellas:
